Aquacare designs and supplies five different types of Aquaculture Biofilters:
For nitrification
Microbead biofilters: utilizing expanded polystyrene beads as large surface area. Highly effective and stable, compact, very low head, very economical media. Can integrate CO2 stripping.
Moving bed biofilters: utilizing plastic media, agitated using air or water jet. Highly effective and stable.
Fluidized biofilters: sand media fluidized by water flow. Highly effective, low cost media, higher pumping head required.
Trickle filter biofilters: passive filters with and without countercurrent air flow. Simple and effective, requires large area.
For denitrification
Multi-cell biofilters with automatic carbon source dosing. Bacteria are first starved of oxygen, then with the addition of supplemental carbon source remove the O from NO3. Carbon addition is controlled using an ORP sensor feedback loop.
Aquacare will recommend the best biofilter for each application.
