Grow more food for less cost, as the fish waste becomes the main component of the fertilizer for crops.  Instead of buying fertilizer and spending money to clean the fish water before re-use, fish provide free fertilizer and crops clean the water so that 90% of it can be recycled back to the fish.  On top of those benefits, you end up with multiple marketable food items, fresh vegetables and healthy fish.

Farm food in places where it was difficult or even impossible in the past. With 90% of the water being reused, aquaponics presents an opportunity to farm food in areas with little to no ground water, from dry deserts to areas affected by drought. Along with dry areas, aquaponics is also very suitable for urban farming, as it can designed to accommodate a wide variety of structure shapes and sizes, from shipping containers to rooftop farms.

Reduced environmental impact. By using a fraction of the amount of water used by conventional and even traditional organic farming, utilizing free energy in the forms of sunlight and plant food from fish waste, and eliminating wasted time and $ on jobs like mixing nutrients. Furthermore the fertilizer provided by the fish is a truly organic, natural form of nutrients for the plants, and since there is no soil there is no chance of soil-borne diseases.

Healthier/happier fish. Since the fish waste is regularly flushed out of the fish tanks to the hydroponic gardens the stagnant build-up of waste in the tanks is eliminated, avoiding water toxicity due to nitrites, and keeps the water cleaner and clearer for the fish. Also because no chemicals can be added to the system (since it would be fatal to the fish), no pesticides or herbicides or chemical fertilizers can be used, meaning aquaponics farms are truly organic, and your end products are safer and healthier.

Bigger crops that grow faster. Plants love the nutrient rich water dense with fish-waste, and they will grow more quickly and to bigger sizes than with other farming methods. Combine this fact with the fact that plant spacing can be intensive, meaning you can fit more plants in a certain space, it is clearly a system that maximizes profit without hurting the livestock or the environment.

Fresh, local organic food. The concept of ‘farm-to-table’ has come a long way. With aquaponics farms and their ability to be adapted to almost any environment as well as size and shape of structure, they present a great opportunity to feed the growing demand of local, fresh, organic food which can be consumed the day it was harvested.

Farm anywhere and all year round. Aquaponics can literally be a successful farming method any time of the year, in any climate, anywhere on the planet! Greenhouses allow for growing in the normal ‘off-seasons’ that most parts of the world have, and the minimal water use allows for systems to thrive even in areas affected by heavy/long droughts, or in area’s which have been dry deserts for a long time.

Crops with incredible flavor. Ask any aquaponics farmer and they will agree that the crops produced in an aquaponics system have richer more delicious flavors than those grown on conventional farms.

Additional reduced environmental impacts.  Some other aspects of conventional farming which are eliminated with aquaponics farms are soil run-off off pesticides/herbicides/fertilizers (which causes several harmful side effects including giant algae blooms and ‘dead zones’ in our bodies of water) as well as excess petroleum use driving truck-loads of crops long distances from farmable areas to urban areas.

Land conservation/utilizing wasted spaces. Since aquaponics farms grow so much more per acre lots of land is conserved for other uses, and because these systems are adaptable to almost any size and shape of building, abandoned buildings such as old warehouses and/or barns which aren’t being used can and will be converted into aquaponics farms.
